2020 certainly hasn’t turned out how most of us planned, and Talbot Humane is no different. At the end of last year, after taking a year off, we were working toward the 10th Anniversary of Bark in the Park on 10-10-2020, but that was not meant to happen.
Talbot Humane’s commitment to the animals in the shelter and community haven’t changed during this year. “The need of support for animals and owners has not gone away,” shares Executive Director Patty Quimby. “We have seen a slight decrease in animals entering our direct care during the pandemic, but the needs in the community for food, medical assistance and spay neuter are stronger than ever. Our inability to be out at community events, hold in person fundraisers and see our friends in person means we have to be creative with how we raise these funds.”
This year is the first year for the Talbot Humane (virtual) Halloween Hustle Dog Walk & 5K. The event was created so families and friends can help the animals of the Midshore even if getting together in person is not possible right now. Sponsored by Bay Imprint, West & Callahan and TCR Event Management, you can register to participate through November 3, 2020. Each individual registrant receives an awesome long-sleeved event t-shirt designed by Bay Imprint. You walk, run, or combo any distance you wish with or without your pets! The event includes a fundraising component where every person who chooses to fundraise has the opportunity to win some cool swag which includes water bottles, registration refund, hoodies and a top fundraiser prize too.
There is also an online costume contest for humans and pets alike! Quimby shares “We may not be in person, but we will still have a “parade” of costumes online to compete!”
It is pretty simple and there are prizes thanks to local businesses stepping up to support Talbot Humane and thank you for participating. To participate you will post images of you, your friends, family and/or pets in costume at https://www.facebook.com/talbothumaneevents (be sure to LIKE this page and get your friends and family to like it too). The top 10 photos (those who gain the most “Likes”) will win awesome prizes, voting for costumes will end on November 3, 2020.

Last year Katie Rohe and her family found their new puppy was going to need surgery to correct severe hip dysplasia which would cost several thousand dollars. This was a period of stress and worry about their sweet pup, not to mention concerns about finding the funds to pay for such and expensive surgery. This is when Katie realized there are so many people and animals in the same position. Because of her experience and learning that many owners end up having to surrender these pets to their local shelters, Katie decided she was going to do something to help those animals not as fortunate as Whiskey. That’s when Whiskey’s Warriors was born!
The purpose of the Whiskey’s Warriors 5k is to help pet owners who cannot afford or fall short of the funds necessary to help pay for their pets’ medical needs, or to pay for the surgery of rescue pets who would have otherwise not been adopted, due to health issues. The funds will help Talbot Humane further our Intervention and Retention program to assist pet owners in our community with medical needs in order that they do not have to surrender their pets to the Talbot Humane.
The Race is set for the morning of September 21, 2019 in Easton, Maryland. Sponsorship opportunities, donations and of course runners and walkers are needed for year 1 of the race! For more information on the event, or to register, go to Another Level Fitness- Whiskey’s Warriors

This year our team is running the Salisbury Running Festival half marathon. We were a part of the inaugural festival last year and everyone truly enjoyed the experience.
This is a get or give fundraising program. You raise funds for the animals in return for a fully supported non-competitive training program which promises to get you to the start line on Saturday April 6, 2019!
Our charity runners are doing an amazing job for the animals with their fundraising efforts! Since the Summer of 2012, our team has collectively raised more than $250,000 for the animals of our community! AMAZING!
