Patty Crankshaw-Quimby, CAWA, joined the Talbot Humane team in 1999 as one of 2 animal caretakers caring for the almost 2,000 animals that entered the shelter annually at that time. “I had no intention of this being a ‘career’. I thought ‘I am going to work here while I look for a “real” job.” Quickly Patty realized this was her calling. Holding most of the positions through the years, she worked up the ranks to animal control officer, humane officer, shelter coordinator and now executive director since March 2011.
Patty is the current president of Professional Animal Workers of Maryland- the state association of animal control agencies and shelters, a consumer member and Vice President of the Maryland Board of Veterinary Examiners and sits on the Maryland Spay/Neuter Advisory Board. She resides in Easton with her husband, Frenchton Teela, cat Simon, 25 year old sulcata tortoise Gamera, and Russian tortoise Tortellini. With her experiences and the wealth of knowledge of her colleagues this blog will share our plans at Talbot Humane, current events in the sheltering world, the state of animals in Maryland and more.
