The Maryland 3000 comes to the Shore!
Adoption fees will be waived at participating animal shelters
across Maryland for the month of August
Easton, MD — August 2024: Talbot Humane and fellow shelters across Maryland including Caroline County Humane Society, Queen Anne’s County Animal Services and the Animal Care Center of Kent County, MD are excited for the return of the “Maryland 3,000” adoption challenge. For the month of August, adoption fees will be waived for animals at participating animal shelters across the state. Shelters in almost every county are involved.
Though fees are waived, all regular adoption procedures still apply. Interested adopters should check with their local shelter to see what is included with the adoption of their new pet.
“The goal for this event is to place 3,000, or more pets into loving homes during August.” Shares Patty Quimby, Executive Director of Talbot Humane and President of Professional Animal Workers of Maryland, the state association of animal shelters and animal control units. “Shelters across MD and the country are in crisis right now. Talbot Humane has not had numbers like this since 2015.”
If you have been considering adoption, now it a great time to consider falling in love. With over 20 Maryland shelters participating, you are likely to find that perfect match now!
This event was started over a decade ago by the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance made up of shelters in the Baltimore metropolitan area which work together to help animals in need. This event was so successful they expanded it to shelters across Maryland in 2018. While it has not happened since 2019, all participating shelters are excited for its return.
