bark week

THE FUN STARTS MONDAY OCTOBER 12

Bark Week is going to make you chase your tail with excitement!

You know us, we cannot contain the fun to just one day!  Start with our Facebook trivia contest.  Each day sometime between 9A-noon we will post a trivia question about Talbot Humane, animals, pet care or Bark in the Park.  The first correct answer each day will win a Bark in the Park related prize ranging from event registration to BITP T-shirts and more!  On Tuesday October 14th tune to Bark in the Park sponsor WCEI 96.7 during the 8 o’clock hour. Matt & Mo will be chatting with Patty Quimby & Susan Langfitt about Talbot Humane and Bark in the Park! Then, on Friday October 17th tune into Delmarvalife on WBOC Channel 16 at 5PM to see our adoptable pets (some will be dressed ready for the costume parade!) and last minute updates on Saturday’s event.

As the sponsor for the Bark in the Park Guinness World Record Costume Parade the Hair O’ The Dog Gang is jumping right in to make Bark Week FUN and FABULOUS for everyone! October 12-17 they will be making sure you don’t forget about Bark in the Park!

  • Here is a reason to get that costume ready now! “The Dog” will be holding a Dog Costume Contest throughout the week. Go to Hair O’ the Dog on Marlboro Rd. in Easton with costumed dogs have more fun! your dog dressed to impress and they will take photos to post to the HOTD Facebook page. The dog with the most likes will win a $50 gift card to HOTD, 2nd place a $25 gift card and 3rd place a $10 gift card!
  • On Friday October 17th the “Wine Diva” Leeanne and Talbot Humane board member Jo Verne have challenged each other to a cook-off using Guinness! The winner is judged by YOU with your $$$! (real winners- the animals who benefit from the cash donated!)
  • Friday will also have a wine tasting featuring a Chardonnay & Cabernet Sauvignon from Frenchie Winery. Frenchie donates $1.00 for every bottle sold to the national ASPCA. They also have French Bulldogs on the labels and are geared towards dog lovers!

We wish to send great thanks to our major event sponsors: Hair O’ The Dog, Koons of Easton, Easton Utilities, WCEI Radio, Bay Imprint, and The Star Democrat.

We hope you choose to support Talbot Humane in our biggest fundraiser of the year. We know you are busy. We know you have many worthy organizations asking for your support. You truly make a difference for the animals or our community when you support Talbot Humane. It is very true, when we each do our part, amazing things happen.

Going for Guinness! Talbot Humane’s Bark in the Park is shooting for the stars!

Bark in the Park 2012Can you believe we will soon be celebrating our 5th Annual Bark in the Park Family Festival? While this is our biggest fundraiser of the year, it is also an amazing day of entertainment and fellowship among the animal lovers of our community. This event has become the most fun you can have with your pooch on the mid shore each October! We love that so many dogs bring out their owners to support the mission of Talbot Humane. This year we are combining our traditional fun with some new and exciting events on October 18th!

I bet many of you skimmed through the Guinness Book of World Records as a kid and thought, “how cool would it be to get in this book?” Well, here is a chance for you and your dog to make history with Talbot Humane. We want you to break out the canine costumes for this year’s Festival! We have obtained permission to attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of dogs in a costume parade. This parade will be our Dog Walk for the event and is sponsored by Hair O’ The Dog. If the current record of 337 dogs is broken, then indeed each dog is a World Record Dog- now that is something to bark about! Per Guinness rules all dogs must be healthy, be in a costume of at least two pieces, and only one dog is allowed per handler. Preregistration is $25 and is strongly encouraged. This can be done by clicking here and registering online NOW or printing the BITP Event Registration Form and submitting to Talbot Humane with your payment!

A Happy Life!

happy dog ikey

We adopted him from you three years ago. I don’t know if you remember, but he and his brother were called “snuggly” and “wuggley” or something similar. We now split his time between Bonita Springs, FL, and Bowie, MD. His mentor and BFF, Mike the JRT, passed away at 14 of Hemangiosarcoma. So he is our only boy, and according to my son, the MOST spoiled dog he has ever seen. He is well trained and gets along well with others. He even gets a gold star for leaving the bunny rabbits and squirrels alone with the command “leave it.”
You would be proud of him. He is a beautiful specimen of an animal in perfect health.
Thanks again.

Talbot Humane Outstanding Youth Volunteer Scholarship Program

2014 scholarship recipientPart of our mission at Talbot Humane is to promote humane care of all animals through educational opportunities. Thanks to the cooperation of the public and private schools in Talbot county and our youth volunteer opportunities, we have been able to reach tens of thousands of children over the past 15 years. This year we are very proud to present our first Talbot Humane Outstanding Youth Volunteer Scholarship Award to Kristianna Saelens. Kristianna interned with Talbot Humane for the 2013-14 school year. She continued on as an important part of our volunteer team even after her internship was completed in February.

This scholarship is completely funded by donors who earmark their gifts for this program. Eligibility for this annual scholarship, gifted to a high school senior are as follows: the student must be a Talbot county resident, must have shown themselves to be an ambassador for the animals of our community through volunteering or internships with Talbot Humane, and must be planning to attend a 2 or 4 year school with a concentration in one of the animal sciences in the fall of the granting year. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by committee in April and awarded in May of each year.

For more information on Talbot Humane’s youth opportunities, or to make a donation toward the scholarship fund contact Susan Langfitt at susan@talbothumane.org today.
