Talbot Humane’s #GivingTuesday Challenge!

paws and hand

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Talbot Humane is making it simple to support our needs on this day- join us in the “coffee challenge”! Donate $10 to Talbot Humane on #GivingTuesday to make a difference for the animals and citizens in need. We figure $10 is what many of us spend on coffee during the work week, maybe a carry out lunch, or our soda fund for a couple of days. A small sacrifice to make a HUGE difference together!

Your $10 will be part of our matching campaign. Imagine this. If 100 friends give $10 each we have $1,000- turned into $2,000! If 1,000 friends give $10 each we have $10,000- turned into an amazing $20,000! It is THAT simple! When we each do our part, together we make SUCH a difference! Join us on #GivingTuesday to make a difference in our little corner of the World.

You can make your donation online by clicking below, drop it in the mail to Talbot Humane PO Box 1143 Easton, Maryland 21601, stop by and see us at 7894 Ocean Gateway, or in any of the many donation containers around Talbot County.  Thank you friends. YOU are saving animals of our community with your support!

Matching Gifts Making Twice the Difference for the Animals this Holiday Season

paws and handTalbot Humane has received an amazing gift to the animals- a matching gift of $17,500! Thanks once again to the generosity of the St. Johns Foundation and an anonymous donor, our ability to make a difference for the animals of our community has doubled. Your gifts from our mail campaign are included in this matching program, as well as any donation made during the holiday season where you note “matching” in the memo line.

Our goal for this year’s holiday and end of year giving campaign is to raise $70,000 for the animals. The money raised goes directly toward ensuring our programs and services to the pets and pet owners of our community continue through 2016.

When you give local, you see your money used in your community. Talbot Humane is more than just a successful open admission animal shelter. When you support us you are saving the lives of animals on your street. Spaying and neutering animals in your neighborhood. Filling the bellies of animals in your town. Providing humane education in your local schools.  This is what your donation does everyday at Talbot Humane.

You can make an online gift right now by clicking HERE, or, for more information on how you can make a difference for the animals contact our office today at (410) 822-0107 or info@talbothumane.org.

Have a Plan for your Pets!

Talbot Humane and Talbot County Animal Control would like to remind citizens during the times of high winds, heavy rain and potential flooding to PLEASE bring your pets indoors. Talbot Humane will lend crates to those in need during this time. Do not leave dogs tethered out or in confined areas such as kennels, sheds or any other structure which may flood or collapse. Please keep cats indoors during and after the event. Animals suffer from stress just as humans during extremes and may behave erratically, or not recognize their surroundings. If you see a problem within Talbot County, please contact our office at (410)822-0107.

If you are in a danger zone, please plan to leave well in advance of the impending weather event.

You will want to contact friends or family outside of the immediate danger area to stay. Contact local hotels to see if they are pet friendly, or will waive their policy during an emergency. In Easton the following hotels will accommodate pet owners- Tidewater Inn, Days Inn, Comfort Inn and Inn at 202 Dover. These businesses ask that owners call in advance to find out their requirements.

In the event the Social Services Shelter at Easton High School is opened, the Talbot Animal Disaster Services shelter will also open to house pets for those residing in the shelter. Please be advised this shelter IS NOT a drop off for your pets- it is only for those residents living in the shelter. This shelter should also be used as a means of last resort- it will be stressful for you and your pets.

When evacuating your home with pets, owners should bring the following items:

  • A crate or carrier for each pet

  • Medical records, a photo, veterinarians name and number, and any medication for each pet

  • Food for 3 days for each pet

  • Bedding, litter, cleaning supplies for each pet

  • Sturdy leashes, toys and any special items needed for your pet

Pets suffer from stress during these times just like you and me. The best way to protect you and your pets is to be prepared. Have a plan, and do not wait until the last minute to act.

Talbot Humane Welcomes Amy Eutsey as Volunteer Coordinator

first race

The first official race for UNLEASHED in fall 2012.

Amy Eutsey is no stranger to Talbot Humane. In December of 2011 she joined forces with fellow volunteer Julie Fickes to create our very successful and life changing program UNLEASHED.  She has been an important part of our volunteer force since!

Earlier this year Amy joined the staff of Talbot Humane as our part time data entry assistant.  When Susan Langfitt, long time Volunteer and Community Events Coordinator, shared her interest in concentrating on fundraising and development, Amy was an immediate choice to work with the volunteers.

“Susan has left big shoes to fill.  I am excited to work with the dedicated volunteers,” shares Amy. “I love working with and inspiring people, and being a part of the team of Talbot Humane.”

We are thrilled to have Amy join us.   “She has a gentle and friendly nature, is super organized and is committed to the mission of Talbot Humane,” states director Patty Quimby. “We are all excited to have Amy as part of the team.”

Interested in joining the volunteer family at Talbot Humane? Stop by to meet Amy, or email her at talbothumanevolunteer@gmail.com

UNLEASH Yourself for the Animals!

unleashed dewey

It’s that time again friends. Another season of UNLEASHED training is before us beginning in July 2015.

Charity Running Team to Benefit Talbot Humane
  • Choose your distance.
  • Choose your race. Choose your fundraising plan.
  • But first, choose to do something extraordinary for yourself!

You’ve seen us running. You may have been curious as to what we were doing, who we were. Maybe even thought “I want to do that some day.” Or “I would do that but I can’t because….”  Believe us when we say, you can, if you will it, you’ll make it, and you will LOVE IT!  Geared toward your fitness level, this program is for couch potatoes and weekend warriors alike!

UNLEASHED is a group of ordinary folks doing pretty awesome things for themselves, the animals and citizens of our community. Since Spring 2012 our UNLEASHED runners have raised over $60,000 for the animals of Talbot Humane! This is simply amazing!

Our next informational meeting will be held at Talbot Humane on Thursday June 25th at 6PM for any and all interested parties. Come meet the coaches, the alumni and learn just how DO-ABLE our program really is!  For more information on the program click HERE

If you would like to speak to a team member about this amazing opportunity to get fit and help the animals all at once please email info@talbothumane.org or call (410)822-0107 today.
