Talbot Humane is excited to partner with the St. Michaels Running Festival as a 2014 Charity Partner. The festival has grown by leaps and bounds since 2012. “Partnering with the SMRF is a great opportunity for Talbot Humane,” states Amy Eutsey, Talbot Humane UNLEASHED founder and trainer. “Our charity running team UNLEASHED will soon enter our 3rd year. This partnership is an incredible way to raise funds for Talbot Humane, get more people moving, and help support our fellow nonprofit organizations all at once!”  The 3rd Annual Festival will be held May 17, 2014.

There are several ways to support both Talbot Humane and the 2014 Running Festival- and GET MOVING!

• Join our UNLEASHED charity fundraising team! By doing so you receive training and unconditional support from our experienced coaches, make new friends, and raise money for the animals. Seriously- this program WILL get the most serious of couch potatoes across the finish line!
• Sign up to volunteer for the event- it is a fun way to get involved in the community.
• Register your team of friends, family and co-workers to run or walk the 5K, 10K, or half marathon as part of the Talbot Humane team. You may also choose to donate or fundraise for Talbot Humane when you register.
• Of course, don’t forget to share, share, share on social media!

Talbot Humane is thrilled to be partnering with Lacaze Meredith Realty at 17 N. Harrison St. to open our Pawsitively Fabulous Boutique in downtown Easton.  The shop will be open Friday- Sunday beginning on Waterfowl Weekend and will open every weekend through December 22nd.

The boutique is filled with fresh ideas and gifts for everyone, not only animal lovers.  Even if you are not a pet owner, you will want to visit our shop for gifts and goodies for yourself, friends and loved ones.  Candles, clothing, home decor, pet toys and more will be filling the shop, all to benefit the animals of Talbot Humane.

The idea for the store came from Talbot Humane volunteer Melinda Sebastian.  Melinda is the brains behind our wonderful boutique each year at Bark in the Park and helps manage our gift corner at Talbot Humane.  With a background in retail, purchasing, and design, this was a perfect fit. “I wanted to find a unique and fun way to help raise funds for the shelter.  My mother works at LollyPop Farms, a shelter in upstate New York.  Their boutique raises thousands of dollars each year for the animals.”  Melinda was ecstatic when Lacaze Meredith offered part of their office space.  “This partnership will benefit both businesses,” shares Melinda. “Their location is perfect.  The staff at Lacaze Meredith has been so helpful, we are all excited to see this become a success!”

Melinda and her volunteers will be greeting shoppers Fridays and Saturdays 10AM-4PM and Sundays noon-4PM through December 22nd.  Once you’ve visited our boutique we hope you support the other downtown businesses as the too  give back to the community in so many ways.

We are pleased to announce our participation in the 2013 Maryland Charity Campaign. This campaign allows Maryland state employees to donate directly from their paychecks to one of many charities within the state. “We are so happy to be involved with this program once again,” states Patty Quimby executive director of Talbot Humane. “Being chosen as a charity partner gives our supporters one more way to donate and make a difference for the animals of our community.”

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Let The Cat Out…

Talbot Humane Introduces…

Talbot Humane is playing on the Discovery Channel’s popular “Shark Week” by introducing its own “Bark Week” celebration October 14-18, leading up to the 4th annual Bark in the Bark festival on October 19 at Idlewild Park in Easton.

Bark Week features a series of community events at Easton and St. Michaels businesses, showcasing and in support of Talbot Humane’s adoptable dogs.

Promotions will run Monday through Friday during Bark Week at Marcoritaville in St. Michaels and at The BBQ Joint in Easton, Wednesday at Rise Up Coffee in Easton, and Friday at the Village Shoppe in St. Michaels. Donation jars will welcome contributions at all locations.

Marcoritaville offers half-price burgers at lunchtime throughout Bark Week. Dogs from Talbot Humane visit on Monday from noon to 2 p.m., tempting diners both to adopt and to donate. Chef Mark will match the week’s donation jar contributions made at Marcoritaville.

Adoptable dogs visit The BBQ Joint on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. The eatery will offer homemade dog biscuits in support of Talbot Humane all week long. “We hear those doggie biscuits are delicious!” said Patty Crankshaw-Quimby, Talbot Humane’s executive director.

She encourages everyone to come out and get their morning cup of joe at Rise Up Coffee in Easton on Wednesday from 7 to 11 a.m. The dogs visit from 10 to 11, and Talbot Humane’s mascot, SNAPS, will stop by to greet the coffee crowd.

Bark Week concludes on Friday with a visit to the Village Shoppe in St. Michaels from noon to 6 p.m. by volunteer Pete Howell with his dog, adopted from Talbot Humane. “Be prepared to have Pete talk you into adopting,” warned Crankshaw-Quimby, “or at least coming out for Bark in the Park the next day.”

Crankshaw-Quimby thanked all four businesses for their support of Bark Week. “The Bark Week events are building excitement for Bark in the Park on Saturday,” she explained. “Having these businesses take part in the effort shows how committed our whole community is to the work Talbot Humane does for the animals of Talbot County.”

Once again Talbot Humane will be holding our Fun Dog Show at this year’s Bark in the Park Festival on October 19th.  For just $10 you can show your pup pride in up to 10 classes, or, just come to watch the fun!

Once again Talbot Humane is going CAT CRAZY with a 100 Feline Challenge to the community. The goal- to place 100 cats and kittens into new forever homes by September 30th. Waiving the usual adoption fee which ranges from $25-$75, during this challenge the adoption fee is to donate cat or kitten food to help provide care for the many cats still in need of a new home. Our cat population has remained over 200 for most of the summer.  Our hope is to bring awareness to the plight of cats and kittens in our area as well as find homes for the many homeless pets waiting at Talbot Humane. All cats and kittens are altered, vaccinated, tested for FeLV/FIV and microchipped prior to adoption.  So, as you can see, you are not only finding a new best friend, but, you have saved $250-400 verses that cat or kitten “Free to a good home” in the paper.  For more information on one of the many pets for adoption or on how you can volunteer, contact Talbot Humane at (410)822-0107.

We all need a hearty breakfast to start our day, especially on Saturday, right?  Well, we have the solution- on Saturday September 7th  for only $7  come have breakfast with us at Applebee’s of Easton.  You will receive a pancake breakfast- cakes, sausage and a drink to benefit the animals of Talbot Humane!  Purchase your tickets NOW at Talbot Humane, at any of our outings around town or that morning at the door.  We hope you choose to dine with us, 8AM-10AM and make a difference for the homeless pets of Talbot Humane.

The afternoon of Sunday August 4th was definitely all about the dogs (and cats!) at Bannings Tavern in Easton.  Chef Mangasarian and his staff opened their doors to Talbot Humane and local animal lovers in an effort to raise funds for homeless pets.  Pints from Eastern Shore Brewing, hot dogs and home made dog biscuits were a hit, raising more than $700 for the animals in a few short hours. We wish to thank Bannings Tavern, Eastern Shore Brewing and Kelley Distributors of Easton for your generosity and support. Yet another example of our wonderful community giving back to Talbot Humane!

Get your charge cards ready- on Thursday August 22nd, the FashN Art Mobile Store will be at Talbot Humane- to benefit the animals of course!  The store will be open 11a-7p in front of Talbot Humane, donating 10% of all sales for the day to the animals.  We are thrilled to partner with yet another local business to make a difference in our community.  A great way to support this new business and Talbot Humane together.  FashN Art’s home will be 204 N. Washington St. beginning later this month.
