TALBOT HUMANE ADOPTION POLICY

    ANIMALS ARE NOT SHORT-TERM COMMITMENTS.

Our adoption policy is designed to ensure placement of our animals in the best
    possible responsible, forever homes.

1. To start the adoption process, an application (online or picked up at the shelter)
must be completed and reviewed prior to approval. This process lets us learn about
you and which animal may be the best candidate for your situation. Application
review usually takes 2-3 days, which not only gives you a chance to think over your
decision, but also enables us to verify the information you provided to us. We need
    to know

*  your landlord or property manager allows pets (if you rent or lease)

*  you own your property

*  you have sufficient yard space or fenced-in area, particularly if you’ve chosen a
        big breed dog
you are/were current on all vaccines and licenses for current and
        previously-owned pets

*  you expect to keep your pet indoors and treat it as a companion animal at all
        times

*  your pet will not be left alone for extended periods of time

If any of these conditions need to be resolved, you will be so advised and your application will be held in a pending file until such time as the problem is corrected, up to a maximum of 6 months.

2.  All animals will be spayed or neutered before being adopted.

3.  The fee for adoption is $100 for both cats and dogs and covers the implanting of a microchip, a distemper
vaccination, a dose of worming medicine, heartworm and/or feline leukemia testing.

4. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt and provide written identification that includes name and current
    address.

5.
All members of the adoptive family are encouraged to take part in the decision; if an adult member of the household
refuses to come and interact with the animal, the application may be denied.

6.
Giving animals as surprise presents is discouraged, and generally applicants who want an animal as a gift are not
approved. There are limited situations where such adoptions are approved which you should discuss with a staff
     member.

7.
Adopters of other small mammals (domestic rabbits, rodents) and birds must have caging facilities that meet
shelter approval. Domestic rabbits must be spayed or neutered.

8.
If at any time for any reason you are no longer able to care for the pet you are adopting, you must agree to return it
     to us.

9.
Approval of the application is at the discretion of the shelter and will be made in the interest of finding the best
     homes possible for our animals.

“You think those dogs will not be in heaven! I tell you they will be there long before any of us.”
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894)
