Home About Us Adopt a Pet Spay/Neuter Program Animal Rescue How You Can Help News and Events

Talbot Humane volunteers are very special people who share the same goals for animal welfare as our staff. We depend on them to help out in a variety of ways. In addition to working directly with the animals, office/clerical and housekeeping jobs must be done. Volunteers may assist in many ways.

Do you like facts and figures?

  • Update resources--wish book, lost pet information, and adoption applications.
  • Assist with general office work.
  • Lend a hand with computer data entries.
  • Adoption assistant: Help the adoption coordinator with paper work, adoption
packets etc., to make the process go quicker and get animals out the door
        faster!

  • Do you prefer dealing with the public?

  • Become an official Talbot Humane greeter on the phone and in person.
  • Explain our spay/neuter program to visitors.
  • Make courtesy follow-up calls to adopters to offer assistance with pet-care
information and to check on compliance with spay/neuter agreements.
  • Cat adoption attendant: Are kitties your thing? We need some cat savvy people
who would like to “man” the cattery and help prospective adopters decide which
        feline is a purrfect match!
  • Dog adoption attendant: Do you crave the kisses of man’s best friend? Well
maybe being a dog adoption attendant is the job for you. This is similar to the
cat attendant; you’ll help prospective adopters in the kennel area take dogs
outside or to the visiting room to see if we can make a love connection.

  • Get involved with our various yearly fundraising events
  • Take photos of shelter animals as they leave for their new forever home.
  • Help raise Talbot Humane visibility in the communities we serve through
participation in scheduled events around the county--from marching in parades
to manning a Talbot Humane booth, to fundraising events and more! If you are
interested in being a committee member let us know and we will connect you
        with the appropriate person.

Does a cold nose make you happy?

  • Enjoy the fun of walking and socializing our adoptable animals.
  • Bathe and groom shelter dogs and cats. They will love you for it.
  • Transport wildlife to sanctuaries as needed.
  • Foster Parent: Are you a night owl? Do you like a challenge? Is the idea of
giving a needy animal a second chance at life something you would like to try?
Well, maybe being a foster parent is a job for you. We are always getting
kittens and puppies in need of care and socialization: maybe it’s a dog with a
broken leg; sometimes it is simply an animal not thriving in the shelter situation
and needs some tender love and care at home to flourish. We always need
someone interested in giving their time and love to this worthy cause. You may
complete the Foster Care Application online.

  • Do you enjoy the satisfaction of seeing a job well done?

  • Get out your new digital camera and photograph our adoptable pets for posting
on the website--a most important volunteer job!

  • Help keep our shelter landscaping beautiful through the year.

  • Perform general housekeeping duties, from dishes to laundry, to cleaning
        kennels and floors.

If you have other special skills to offer not listed here, please tell us about them too. Just give us a call at 410-822-0107 to become a part of our volunteer crew. You'll be glad you did, and so will we and the animals we serve!

You may complete our VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM online.
