2007 MARYLAND
CHARITY CAMPAIGN.
Talbot Humane has been selected to
participate in the 2007 Maryland Charity Campaign. Open to all MD
state employees. Our designation code is 1280. The campaign
kicks off in September. Please contact the shelter for complete
details.
BECOME A MEMBER
Talbot Humane always
welcomes new members, volunteers, and financial supporters. With
your help, we can touch the lives of many homeless and abused
animals in our community as we strive to give them a second chance.
Membership entitles you to attend the annual meeting, to receive a
subscription to our newsletter, Shelter Tales, and to join
our staff of volunteers.
VOLUNTEER
Talbot Humane volunteers are very special people who
share the same goals for animal welfare as our staff. We depend on them
to help out in a variety of ways. In addition to working directly with
the animals, office/clerical and housekeeping jobs must be done.
Volunteers may assist in many ways.
TNR--Trap-Neuter-Return
Do you like cats? How about fishing? Well we have a project where
you can do both! We are in need of helping hands for our weekly
Trap-Neuter-Return program. If you have even 2 hours to give on
Wednesday morning or afternoon or Friday morning we can use you! It
is not a difficult job to learn and it truly is rewarding when you
realize these animals would be euthanized if we did not have this
program! We try to trap between 6-8 cats for our weekly clinics and
need more hands--our friend Ursula cannot do it all on her own!
Anyone interested in learning more about the program please contact
Patty Quimby, 410-822-0107.
SPECIAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE
Are you a social butterfly? Do you enjoy party planning? Do
you have some original ideas on how our shelter can boost
fundraising? Then why don’t you think about joining the Talbot
Humane Special Projects Committee. This committee is VERY important
to our shelter’s ability to provide important services to our
shelter residents and the community.
The Special Projects Committee (SPC) of volunteers was organized in
1998 to plan and execute annual events for the
specific purpose of raising funds for the comfort and care of the
animals at the shelter. The SPC works with the Executive
Director to determine where funds are specifically
needed. Some of the events organized and run by the SPC include
an annual Dog Walk, "faux" event, golf tournament, Christmas Open
House, and the always popular and sold-out Luncheon and Fashion
Show. Additionally members volunteer for spay/neuter clinics, plan
and coordinate neuter-a-thons and adopt-a-thons, help at adoption
venues, and participate in seasonal community parades and other
appropriate venues. New ideas and
new and enthusiastic members are always welcome.
Meeting time is 10:00 a.m. on the 1st Monday of each
month, here at the shelter. If you are interested in learning more,
stop in on the 1st Monday or give us a call if you cannot make it this
time but want to be contacted for future meetings.
BECOME A FOSTER PARENT
In January 2004, Talbot
Humane began a new program for shelter animals that have
not yet been adopted. These animals may include kittens and puppies that
are too young to be adopted, as well as animals with injuries, cruelty
cases, and those needing socialization. In order for these animals to
ultimately find permanent loving homes in the community, they all need
special care--special care you could provide by opening your heart and
home to become a foster parent.
BE A CITIZEN ADVOCATE FOR ANIMALS
Know who your representatives are in Annapolis and in Congress so
you can be pro-active in supporting bills as they come before these
legislative bodies, e.g., anti-chaining bills for dogs; anti-cock
fighting bills, the downed cattle bill, etc.
Talbot Humane is a 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit organization.
All donations are tax-deductible to the
extent allowed by law. |
|
Thanks to your generous support, we
are able to care for thousands of animals and place
hundreds of domestic pets in loving homes each year.
Additionally, your donations help spay/neuter large
numbers of animals and provide veterinary assistance for animals
in our care. Please partner with us in our endeavor
to ensure a humane environment for all of the animals in our
community.
